  1. Hi,

I am trying to rip a copy of Das Boot, Directors Cut, and am having problems getting my drive to detect the disk. It is a double sided DVD, and both sides played fine in my standalone player. However, when I put it into my DVD-ROM drive, the drive light flashes a bunch, then stops, and Windows Explorer say the device is unreadable. Smart Ripper says there is no DVD detected. Similar results were experienced in Linux (it wouldn't mount). I tried the disk in my roomates machine, with similar effect. WinDVD automatically opened, but then nothing would play.

I tried putting a different DVD in the player, and it was detected just fine. I then put Das Boot back in the drive and was able to read one of the sides and rip it with Smart Ripper. This procedure doesn't seem to be working on the other side though.

I've ripped lots of DVD's before using this drive, and have never had any problem like this. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

    Thanks
    Chad

  2. i have a suggestion

    quit copying DVDs

this one was obviously made to combat the whole stealing process
and will only play on set-top players

look for more innovations like this one in the near future!

  3. I was able to rip das boot director's cut with no problem using the lite on 163 and dvd decryptor.
The das boot disc is a double sided dvd5 with an overburn of around 4.45 gigs on one side. Maybe this is the side that is unreadable? Try dvd decryptor and see if it will rip it.

  4. I have the Das Boot DC and have had no problems with it on my crummy old DVD-ROM drive.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
