I'm using a Hauppage WinTV 250 PVR to capture MPEG2 from VHS. After capture, all files are perfect. Great picture, sound, etc.... However, when I try to author them using Ulead or SpruceUp, the audio sync becomes a major issue. It's at least ten seconds off. This is after installing the Ulead sync patch on workshop 1.2, and using SpruceUp 1.1 full version. If I re-encode with TMPEG, it is the same thing.
I am so damn sick of this whole thing I'm about ready to throw it all away, sell the DVD-r (pioneer A04) and say screw it. Anyone have any ideas?

Reinstall the OS and start from scratch. And don't install more software than you need (keep it clean).

You mean re-install all of Windows XP? What's that going to do? Isn't it just going to be the same issues?

Try demuxing, and remuxing the video and audio tracks. That should fix and irregularities in the mpeg2 headers, which I would assume are coming from your capturing software and screwing up the authoring programs. You can try tmpgenc to demux and remux, if that doesn't work try to find bbdmux, a great command line demuxer that tends to fix all the problems I sometimes have.
