I read a guide on this site that explains how to convert from 23.9 (NTSCFilm) to 25 fps (PAL). I need to do this since my DVD player wont play the NTSCFilm VCDs (APEX AD-703). Is it totally necessary to do all this (extract the wav file, stretch the video file, stretch the wav file, then multiplex) Or could i just load the PAL template, load the AVI file and let it convert? Thanks

The first way will result in a smooth mpg, the second will introduce jerkiness. It just depends how sensitive you are to this - some people don't appear to notice. 8)

it turns out that when i just try to convert from NTSCFilm to PAL without doing more time staking of the two methods, the audio disappears. Wierd. Does anyone know why. I guess i better just take my time in converting the video. Damn my DVD player.

Many DivX now come with VBR sound which TMPG doesn't like much. You are always better off extracting to an uncompressed wav first using VirtualDub with audio>full processing mode. And while you are doing this, let vdub convert to 44,100Hz.
