i have a GF4 Ti 4200 VIVO 128 MB and an Athlon Xp1800+ 256 MB Ram
If i capture uncompressed in 640x480 i have the same frame lost like in 320x200 ... (VDUB) WDM 1.08 what can i do...its too crazy...
with my old DURON 800 i have the same frame drop like with the 1800+.

Is this a self built computer? If so What is the Datarate and rpm for the hard drive. Sounds like the hard drive can't handle the datarate or you've got too many programs running in the background or you have sync video stream to audio checked in vdub. But I can't see why you'd have such a problem. I just captured on a 1.5 ghz PC WIN XP 128mb RAM Pinnacle Studio Card...

Just some things to try:
* Move the capture card to another slot.
* Do a speed test on your hard drive. Does it perform normally? DMA should be tuned ON.
* Any programs running in the background? Virus checkers, email checkers and so on.
* Is the hard drive fragmented? Does it contain errors?
* What is the CPU load during capture?
* Reinstall the video capture drivers, and remove old drivers.
* Try another capture program.
* Last resort, reinstall the OS. -
hi ... thanks for answer..
dma is on...vdub shows no error during hard disc test i mean no frames drop. The system is new ..i bought it yesterday so everything is fine and new like driver and OS. coud it be that my sound card couse the broblem? its a terratec dm xfire 1024 ... it mußt be an hardware error because i have the same frames drop with my duron 800. The hard disk runs fine...look you only need a datarate of 10-20MB/s for capturing in AVI. The HD runs with UDMA5 (ATA100) so that couldn't be the prob. I check the CPU load and the sync of audio and video...but i didn't thinks thats can help me...but thanks...

You don't mention if you are using any video filters during capture.
Are you trying to compress audio at the same time?
Are you using a video compressor (which one and settings)?
What image format are you using? ie... 24 bits, 16 bits, YUY2
Did you set the video display to preview or even off during caps.
Did you try to pre-allocate the cap file before starting to see if it helps
Try both compatibility and custom formats.
Do you have directx set on in vdub?
In case you have multiple drives, do you have the right cap and spill drives set (if you are using multiseg)
Try another more simple cap app to see if its your settings in vdub. -
hi...
i checked the cpu usage in vdub its under 10% ....i checked it with codec and its the same frames drop...i try to capture without audio ..the same...i have a GF4 ti4200 and the only available capture format is UYVY...i tested adobe premiere...the same and other programs too.
there are no other programs running in the background ...first i thought that my HD is not fast enough....but i turn down the resoulution to 160x120 or somthing like that to get down the transfare rate but its ever the same.... 25 frames lost of 125 captured....and with copression the same...it try the PicVideo MJPEG codec in the best and poorest quality and its still the same....nothing filter ....simply a standard avi capture...
i don'T know whats is could be....i teste it with and without preview..the same

Which other programs you tried? I just assembled my pc - and i similar problem with vdub (though i use VXD drivers), but AVI_Io works fine...but VDUB still drops frames despite 7200 rpm ATA100 hdd and any attempts to tweak it's amd Win disk caches.

are your frames being dropped just at the beginning? if so, just start capturing early.
TV Respects Me! -
You need help from someone who uses a TV-in video card to capture. Unfortunately I use a separate tv tuner capture card. Either that video card is too busy handling screen display when you capture or you don't have the drivers properly installed. Your system is powerful enough to handle anything so all the little tweaks and tricks we have given you don't really apply. Heck, I could capture better with my old Intel 200 mmx and my K6 233. Now I had to use a few tricks to get by but your results suck.
Are you using the drivers that came with the card. Did they provide a capture app. Did you check the card site and ask them for help.
If your system runs normally otherwise then you have to look at that card and it's drivers. I am sure you would notice other processing bottle necks if your system was at fault. I hope you also have the latest directx 8 drivers installed.
PS
One more thought but I may be out in left field.
I noticed that from your profile that you are using XP. My understanding is that you can't usually capture from apps like vdub that were designed for vxd (virtual drivers) on a system using wdm drivers unless you install a special VFW Wrapper.
I don't have that problem with my system and win98 (it seems to be one or the other) but it would be another area that I would want to look at in case it causes a bottleneck. -
Try these video and audio buffer... they work great on my low spec machine.
Celeron 466 @ 550 with 256MB.
ATI AIW-128 32MB PCI.
Win2000 SP2 - DirectX 8.1 - MMC 7.2
Maxtor 80GB 5400rpm (NTFS) on UDMA66 controler.
For 2 hours capturing in VirutalDub at 720x576 25fps, Audio PCM 16bits / 44khz , it drops around 20 frames on average using huffyuv codec or PicVideo MJPEG.
Settings :
Video buffer limit = 80
Audio buffer limit = 0
Audio buffer size = 0
(I've reduced frame drops a lot since I set audio buffer to 0).
Disk I/O:
Chunk size = 512 Kb
Chunks in buffer = 2

Before you go off on an adventure, see if it is your sound card. Try capturing in mono at 22050 hz uncompressed and see what happens.
Did you install the VFW wrapper?
Good luck!!!!! -
hey people.... i got the fu..in error....
it was the sound card....i knew it...i take it out and look there ..it works....
no frames losts in 640x480....and 768x576 (avi of course )...but without sound...i test my onboard scard...
anyway.....thanks for help....i write down my results here tomorrow...
ciao -
i was wrong...
it wasnt the sound card.....fu...!!! when i use vdub and disable audio
capturing its the same like with audio....but in Power Producer from Cyber Link i have the full frame rate.... only video i mean ..if i turn on the audio capture the frame rate go down to 16fps ....its not intressting if you capture audio in 44.1Khz stereo or 11Khz mono ...every time the frame rate is 16fps..... video encoding in divx and realtime is possible too but only video without audio....i check the hardware accleration and so on...but without result....oh something more ...if i capture only the video it has the frame rate of 25fps but it looks so fast ...faster then the original...
so i hope for more intressting messages.....ciao -
I have the exact same problem. I have a p4 2.24 with a GF 4600 so should have no problem capturing but for some reason virtual dub only catches at 16.6fps and dropping heaps of frames when I'm trying to capture at 25fps!
-
When you guys use "preview" in vdub, is the video "lagging" and has it got poor quality?
Btw, did any of you get the VIVOplayer with your card`? -
With my card I got wincoder and winproducer, but wincoder is useless with my audigy sound card because it doesnt capture any sound.
I'll see if preview lags later tonight. Interestingly if I capture with any other capture program it seems to work fine. -
i checked unlead video studio 6 .... in mpeg it work fine but in low res.
480x480 and somtimes it lost some frames. i have a problem with deinterlace...if i check the checkbox for de-interlace nothing happen....
if i capture over my composite from tv ..you see the interlace is still in....
or i can't enable the de-interlace for avi capture....or can i???
cani get a plug in or tool to enable de-interlace for avi capture...
?????????????????? -
I´m having the same problem but didn´t tried another software besides VirtualDub...
In 1 minute of capturing I had an average of 16fps capturing... and I've dropped over 600 frames !!!
When I´ve tried to capture in huffyuv, windows media player gave me an error, since I don´t think it´s a compression issue I´ve tried Divx 5.0, it worked a little bit better, but still loosing lots of frames...
Whatever you guy´s are talking about it will probably apply for me too. -
I have a a 1600+xp and a Asus 8200 Deluxe. I have only tried to capture for the last couple of days... but the following is my finding...
WinXP
-> Using Nvidia 1.08 WDM
-> VirtualDub drop frames like nothing and "chop" the left side and the bottom off by a couple of centimeters.. : ( And the quality was awefull, loads of snows and ghosting..
-> Using supplied Asus WDM drivers
-> Asus Digital VCR does not show frame drop, but shows the full screen (no chopping) but can see the output capture file looks a bit crappy... Then noticed that there was no sound.. : ( Quality still looks crap, though not as bad as in VirtualDub.
Win2k
-> Using Asus WDM drivers
-> AsusLive looks great.. no ghosting.. though had to adjust the saturation abit for the color..
-> The program claimed no frame drop..? the captured file looks great as compare to XP.
-> But still no sound..
This is my exprience so far... I am hunting for an XP version of AsusLive now.. But going to try the newer WDM drivers (1.16) to see if this will solve my problem tonight. I suspect my sound problem is the WDM driver as well.
The capture I am trying is no compress, average 15fps capturing 320x200 (or 240?) res.
So If you have software that came with your card try that and see if that makes a dif.
