  1. I'm converting to PAL cos my DVD player dosn't suport NTSC(plays it in BW).
I use the instructions here http://forum.vcdhelp.com/userguides/78178.php i use TMPGEnc for the video part and BeSweetGUI for the audio. My fyrst try i thought i got it audio and video had the same lenght, but when i watch it the sound was like stretch and all sounds where like in slow motion, very funny but not what i want. The orginal mpg file is "MPEG-1 352x240 29,97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps and 53:10" i can convert the video part to pal but then the audio dosn't sync, and i don't know what to do, when i convert the video it jumps up to 1:03:45, and when the audio is @ that lenght it's all slow. is there a way to keep the movie part @ 53:10 and PAL so the audio can fit. Any ideas?

    Fumbler . . .

This is what I do to convert NTSC VHS tapes to PAL VCD disks . . .

    1) I have a PAL vcr that plays NTSC tapes - only issue here (as with a lot of VCRS that do both PAL and NTSC) is that the output signal from that VCR is not true PAL, but PAL60. Not many apps will capture PAL60 at 29.97 fps!!

    2) I use the capture function in dscaler to capture the video (at 320x240) to an avi file - Huffy is my preferred codec, although you can use whatever you like.

    3) I then use VirtualDub to capture the video and more importantly the audio to file (yes, it involves playing the tape twice, but what the hell - it works for me !!).

    4) still in Vdub, I strip the audio out to a PCM WAV file. I use SoundForge to edit the audio and clean it up as required - I save back into the original format (PCM WAV)

    5) load the AVI file created in 2) as the video source, and the WAV file created in 4) as the audio source. Under the "Video" menu in Vdub, go into "frame rate" and make sure the framerate is left unchanged. I also select the "3:2 pulldown - adaptive" option to help with converting from 29.97 to 25fps. Under the audio menu, you can play with delay and skew settings to make sure the audio is in sync. I also use the "temporaral smoother" filter to improve the quality of the avi, and the "resize" filter to add a black border around the video, bumping the size up to 352x288

    6) save the new avi file

    7) in TmpgEnc, open up this new file as both audio and video source. Make sure that the "do not do framerate conversion" under the advanced tab is turned OFF, and that the "fps" setting is set to 25fps (for PAL vcd). Doing the frame rate conversion in this fashion seems to give me the smoothest results (as opposed to the jerky result you get when doing the FRC in VirtualDub)

    8) encode and enjoy.

NOTE - there may or may not be other ways to do this - I've found that this works for me where I have NTSC tapes that I want to play back as PAL VCD's

Sometimes this can be fixed by using a different scart lead which has all pins connected (not all are like this). Also, if your TV has more than one scart input, try switching.
