I wanted to fit 87 minutes of VCD on a single CD-R so I used the bitrate calculator in the Tools list. It indicated a max bitrate of 978 if my CD-R was 80 minute (700mb). So I set TMGENc for 900.
    The resulting file is 892,416mb.

I loaded the file into DVD MovieFactory for burning and the CD-R shows 702mb available and requires 776mb for the file.

    Where did I go wrong?

@EricB - the HTML bitrate calculator on this site gives me 926 kbps if you want 87 minutes on one VCD...

a little tip: if you lower the audio to 128 kbps (down from 224) then you can set your bitrate at 1022, which will yeild much better quality...also look into doing VBR if you want this much video on one CD...do some experiments and I'll bet you can find a VBR setting that will let you put 87 minutes of good quality video on one CD...I would check out kwag's templated for 352x240 MPEG-1...he seems to be able to sqeeze a lot of video on one CD with decent quality...

Thanks for the response. I wasn't trying to set any record, just put the video on one CD.

I put 90 minutes in for the calculation, left the audio alone just to be "standard" and rounded the resulting 978 down to 900. Still not sure what is wrong here!

If you start playing around with the standard VCD spec, I believe you need to alter System>Stream type to MPEG-1 Video-CD(non-standard). Otherwise TMPG will overide your settings and produce a standard VCD.

BTW I get good results by loading the standard VCD template, loading unlock, and selecting Rate Control mode=CQ. Set max to 1150, min to 300 and CQ to 80. This should get 90 minutes on an 80 minute CD with imperceptible quality drop. Just check your DVD player will play this OK.
