  1. I have a divx file Im trying to encode to mpeg1 vcd. I noticed that this divx movie and most divx movies have a grainy look to them. When I encode can I reduce the grainy look and if so will it make the final product look worse? Thanks

Do they look this way on a DVD player, or just your computer ?. Parts of the movie may be improved with TMPGEnc settings, but other parts may be made worse.

  3. They actually look worse when in the dvd player. It seems that when I burn to vcd, they look better on the tv than if I burn to svcd.

There are very few things you can do if the source is not very good, try some of the settings in TMPGEnc, simple colour correction or Gammer. Make sure DirectShow priority is at the top, make sure you don't have the smr (Angel portion) codec installed, they all make a difference to the colour
