ok: i've read thru the posts, but it is a jumble. I have a 700MG CDR Disk with a VCD on it. I simply want to make a duplicate CDR with the same vcd on it.
i know this is possible for god sake, but how? I tried it on my mac using adaptec toast v.4.1 and it gives errors when i drag files (saying music.xxx has a problem and an i/o error??). I also checked the format of the disk using get info and it says it is an IS09000 disk with a vcd on it.
How in the heck can i just make a simple copy of it??? plz someone.

Why is everyone talking about dragging files when speaking of CDCOPY? There is nothing to drag!!!
Start nero.
Use the wizard.
Select cdcopy.
If you have 2 disk drives that can read the vcd or a PC DVD player and your burner then you are all set
Under COPY OPTIONSchoose the location of the input disk (Thats the VCD)
Under READ OPTIONS
(may or may not be needed) choose "FORCE RAW READING"
Make sure there is a 700mb blank disk in the Burner
Under BURN
Make sure write is clicked on and buffer underrun if you have it
Then press the button "COPY"
The drive where your vcd is located should not be your burner unless you have to create an image.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't have 2 drives (your burner plus 1 more that can read the VCD
then you will have to put the vcd in your burner to read so you can create an image file.
Then use Nero to burn the image file.
NERO RECOMMENDS CREATING AN IMAGE FILE FIRST
Nero also has a help option on the menu with instructions.
That's it.

Sorry in the previous instructions you have to cancel the wizard.
Select file, new and CDCOPY from the options on the left.
doing it this way will bring up the panel where certain options are available.
If you use the wizard it's actually easier because it uses all defaults. You only have to choose the disk drive where your vcd disk is located.
The rest is the same
That's what I get for trying to do it from memory. -
your yelling at me about "dragging and dropping" but if you re read my post it states i use/tried adaptec toast for macintosh. That uses a drag and drop interface.
So basicall i have to use my pc to do this? and get the programs you mentioned to do it? Is there any other way or is this is? Why wont a simple "copy cd now" work? most programs allow you to just copy the entire contents of a cd to a blank one. grrr so frustrating -
First off I can't yell with my keyboard and I don't yell in person.
I always whisper at the keyboard so I won't wake my wife up.
However, I must admit that at times my keyboard can be emphatic.
Since I installed Directx 8.1, I might even say "direct"!
Since this is a newbie post I will take you at your word.
You posted this twice and someone else also posted almost at the same time. You should only post once.
The program you need is a burner program like NERO which only works with a cdwriter.
Remember even a floppy disk or hd have read/write heads. So when you copy a floppy disk you still need the write heads that are built into the target floppy drive.
Nero is a software package that tells the cdwriter to use its laser to write or "burn" the cd information on to a blank disk. You can't do that with a regular cd player.
If you don't have a burner and you want to store the information on your hard drive where there are "write heads" then you have 2 choices.
1)- Using Nero, create an image file which you can keep for now and later burn when you do get a burner. After you create the image file, you can still extract the information in a more readable form by using tools like "isobuster" that will get the info from the image file for you if you want.
2)- Read the cd like a data disk and copy the mpeg or dat file yourself from the disk to your hard drive. You don't need all the files just the movie. You can use your mouse to right click on the selected file and choose copy then point and click to where you want to copy the file and right click on the mouse and click on "paste". Make sure you have enough room on the HD where you click and paste.
Most PC players (including ms media player) should accept these to play. -
You have to pick up on the clues...
The author of this thread is obviously using a Mac...
Copying a VCD (or any disc) under Windows is trivial. Just about every burning proggy can do it with no hassles and there are even specific power user CD copying programs (e.g., CloneCD which IMHO, everyone should have).
I don't own a Mac so I can't tell you a method. However, "drag and drop" will definitely not work on any OS as a VCD is not a CD-ROM. It must be authored correctly (or, if you already have a VCD, you need a DAO copy).
If you don't get an answer here, perhaps posting in the Mac Users Forum will be more appropriate?

The setup of the folder structure on these vcd's isnt like what people have described. there is an mpgavi folder, a vcd folder, a music folder... and about 3 other folders. most are empty too.. is it possible that the original owner somehow made it impossible for anyone to copy these? -
I'm not sure what the interface on Toast 4 looks like, but in Toast 5, there is a huge-ass button in the middle of the interface that says COPY. Click it and be gone.

anyone know why the sound wouldnt come over? the video was grat, but no sound.. help needed -
What brand of DVD player is it? I know on my Daewoo, if I have it set so that it plays back pure Dolby Digital 5.1, when I then switch to a source that requires analog playback, I get no sound until I switch it back to analog manually.
