  1. What is the reason (de)-multiplexing a file?

I'm trying to get a SCVD mpeg file converted to a VCD mpeg file.

de-multiplex extracts the video and audio into separate streams and outputs them to individual files.

Sorry I pushed send before I was finished.

Sometimes people use de-multiplex when they have synch problems and want to re-multiplex the streams using a different tool.

What you want to do is convert an MPEG2 to an Mpeg1 sometimes referred to as transcoding.

There is a tool that does it but it uses parameter files that are not too well explained. Its called mpg2mpg.
    I have seen it called mpeg2mpeg and mpeg2 2 mpeg1.
I believe REMPEG2 will also do it.

This saves all those idea of going to avi then back to mpeg1.
