It will be possible but only with a new settop player with mp4 support such as http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/html/AD-1600.html

  3. WRONG! WMA will not play Divx, Divx is its own code seperate from microsofts MPEG4 or WMA, When and if they ever do add DIVX codecs to DVD players then you can, thats on stand alone DVD players only, any computer DVD player will do divx if you install the Divx codecs.
Don't bet on Divx in DVD players to quick not with microsoft all pissed off at Divx, which was originally a hack of microsofts MPEG4 back in Divx "3" days, Divx 5 is completely on it own, nothing in common with MPEG4.
Ever try playing Divx 5 on Media player 7 or 8 looks like crap and thats because microsoft wanted it that way. Divx 5 plays perfect in media player 6.4.
It's coming specially with Divx playable on the Dreamcast which uses Microsofts CE operating system and Divx players will be out soon for the X-box also, seen a demo of a beta version allready.

  4. well, since a hardware decoder for divx has finally appeared (check out this article over at tom's hardware guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/video/02q2/020621/index.html) things are looking up. Maybe some ballsy dvd manufacturers will pick up on it and release a full fledged divx compatible player..

either way, i play my divx movies in media player 8 and they look pretty dandy to me. and that's on an old Athlon-700 (and we all know that the quality of divx is hardware dependent, don't we?). fair enough, i haven't tried MP 6.4 for a long time, it might be better, but as a comparison The Playa (latest version) is pure shit on my system. i gotta say i'm quite happy with MP 8, i guess :P

Same here, and I think it looks quite nice as well in WMP8. I suppose if someone couldn't set their PC up correctly, they could always blame microsoft. Much easier to live with than blaming themselves...
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
