Im sure this has been asked before. Im looking for a capture card that will give me great results to burn to DVD. I have my Directv Satellite hooked up to my pc now, and Im using a Wintv Go card. I havent tryed to burn anything that I captured with my Wintv Go card yet so Im not to sure how good the picture is for DVD. The Wintv Go does a good job at making VCD's. I want a card that has an S-video hook up and one that will also let me run DD 5.1. Any suggestions?

What is your "not to exceed" price for this purchase?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
i've been dealing with that question for a 1000 years .
DV500+ PLUS is a good one.
--------------------------------
But you have to know something.
Expensive cards like the DV500 PLus, will only save you time with aplications like premiere, realtime transition effects and stuffs, but to get the nearest TV quality. Man that's another story. Beleive me.
I have a Bt848 generic card, and a Geforce 3 ( ASUS with TV In )
the asus card let me capture in 720x480
bt848 let me capture in 640x480 max
I have direct TV and the image quality is always the same in 720 & 640, is stupid get new Capture CARD. The trick is to know how to unlock the potential of the card. I've been capturing to MPEG-2 in realtime 8000 kbits/seg for a long time, and i always recompress my music videos to DVD format and SVCD format in 10min aprox. per video, and it has nothing to envy to Directv Quality.

If you're computer is slower than a pentium III 450 Mhz 512k, forget it.
Pentium 3 - 450 Mhz = 23.97 fps 640x480 4000kbits ( MAX ) I frames only
Pentium 3 - 600 Mhz = 24.00 fps 640x480 5000kbits ( MAX ) I frames only
Pentium 4 - 1.0 1.5 Ghz 29.97 640x480 6000kbits ( MAX ) I frames only
Pentium 4 - 1.7 2.6 Ghz 29.97 720/640x480 8000k( MAX ) Pframes 4 Bframes 2 ( Require lot of processor )
i Also have a NTFS reader for Win98, it will allow you to read LARGE Files.
----------------
If your method is to capture in AVI format , NO PROBLEM i have better guide for that, and don't require to much processor, but require about 10GB for 60min of VIDEO. -
The better way is to grabb the dvb stream as is, no analogue grabbing at all.
www.odsoft.org has a good software for some PCI DVB cards. Win TV DVB/s is one of them
The other alternative (my favorite and the one I use) is a nokia 9600s digital satellite reciever with the DVB 2000 Firmware (www.no-access.de). This reciever includes a SCSI 2 port, so you can use it to grabb the transmission as is and get it on your PC. Then, you have mpeg 2 ready ~DVD files to play with... -
Hey Satstorm, you say you have a digital satellite reciever. Im assuming this is a Directv reciever? Did it come with the DVB 2000 firmware or did you have to install it? Also, what does the SCSI2 port look like? My Directv satellite reciever only has a S-video and a low speed data port. Thanks for the help. Hope this isnt to many questions at once.
Thanks Boxingjunkie -
In Europe we have satellite DVB transmissions and 2 kind of channels Free To air (FTA) and scramble ones.
Read more @ www.lyngsat.com This link includes infos and footprints of all the satellites of the planet!
Nokia 9600 is a satellite digital reciever. It has no relation with DirectTV which if I know correct, it is simply a US subscription service.
In Europe we have plenty of them.
Read the infos to the links I gave you and it might help you.
