  1. I recently downloaded several avi files that do not have sound. When I right click the file, there is no audio format for the file. Is there a new audio format??? I have d/l & installed the most recent codecs from divx.com. This has happened on 2 screener d/l's since 7/20/02. any help or suggestions are appreciated.

  2. You might try installing the nimo codec pack ("tools" link over on the left).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. Thanks -- I d/l nimo and ogg after reading other posts subsequent to posting my original post -- no luck. Should these work automatically or do I need to somehow "tweak" the avi file for the sound to work???

When you open the file in VirtualDub and select file information, what does it say under audio stream?

The unknown(2000) indicates its AC3. Refer to this how to faq for more info.

I use power dvd to play these files. You're probably just missing the ac3 codec on your system, which is why they wont play.
