1. Use SmartRipper to rip dvd to hard drive, take default options.

2. Use Flask Multipass YUV, and
Video Server Pluggin v0.93(Complete install)
from www.videotools.net
Since I don't care about subtitles, I just:
a) Open Flask & choose Video Server as output format.
b) Open first vob in sequence from ripped vobs.
c) Open options and set filenames for Video Server, if DVD is from film
make sure you choose 3/2 pulldown!!!!!
NOTE: The filename on the first Tab will be the FINAL Mpeg2 file created by VideoServer and will be added in VCDEASY step.

d) Open Global options, decode audio 44k, choose YUV video output,
4/3 ratio, 480X480 picture size, enter total seconds to encode.
The framerate should be set to 23.9 fps if the movie is from film.
e) Open Audio Player and normalize sound I usally put slider about
halfway.

3. CCE encoder for MPEG2
a) add avi file to encode
b) Edit a template: HINT= choose same template twice and an edit window will open.
To get 85 - 90 minutes on (1) 80 min cd-r
1) video 1012kps avg, 2452kps max, 500kps min
VBR mpeg2 2Pass
(NOTE: this will actually be 3 passes in CCE)
2) audio 128kps
3) pick 1st field, zigzag, Do Not select any Noise Reduction this will
only slow down CCE. Your source is DVD remember.

Note: CCE encodes realtime 23fps on my pc, so 3passes will be 3 X movie length

4. VcdEasy

a) Select SVCD (1.0), and add MPEG2 created by CCE
b) Use notepad and open information file created by smartripper, and
select All, copy.
c) Go to chapter Tab in VCDEASY, in time window right click and choose "Paste SmartRipper"
This will add all the DVD chapter points to the SVCD
d) Just create the *.bin file only...

5. Nero
a) Choose "Burn Image", after you cancel to wizard.
b) Select the *.cue that goes with the *.bin file created by VCDEASY
c) Burn cd-r

The above steps do not have every detail in them but, if you look around
the program options on the different tabs you should find where to input data. Also check to guides on this site.

I have used these steps and the SVCD looks great on my 48" Big screen.

The play in both my Phillips 825 DVD, and Pioneer 525 DVD players.

If you just want to watch the movie, and be able to move back and forth between chapters this method works.
