Well I wouldn't say ME is "a pile of shite". It served me well for long time, capturing and converting to vcd and svcd.
I would say that now I have XP I find it alot better for most things, it is a lot quicker and nicer to use.

CD's containing windows me should be siezed and destoryed.
The whole OS is a huge bug. -
Oh, good heaven above, SCRAP THE M.E.!!!!
I have used ME, and I currently use Windows XP Pro.
If I had been able to use ME, I'd have not spent the $180-some bucks on the upgrade.
ME is JUST THAT BAD.
If you want horror stories, I have plenty. There's not enough room on this forum, it's hard drive would crash! -
Windows XP Rocks Dude!!
I installed Windows XP & it automatically picked up my DNS & IP addresses automatically & I was on High Speed cable in like 2 minutes.
Believe me, I've used Both & Windows XP is FAR superior & MUCH more stable than ME Dude!

I was smiling and dancing when I pushed "delete master drive volume" and the last reminates of ME were overwritten by solid Windows XP code.

ME doesn't really mean Millinium Edition its a statment of how it was made.
ME = mediocre edition. Upgrade fast, and never ever ever look back. BTW SP1 is on the way. -
I friggin hate ME too, I have at least 2-3 crashes per day.
I've been trying to save up for XP Home but I was told not to get the upgrade but just reformat and install the full version. I was also told that Win 2K Pro with the Service Pak 2 is just as good. Any tips, recommendations?
Or how would one acquire XP cheaply?
Thanks! -
Win2k is okay, but these days there's no sense in using that when you can use XP Pro (they are the same, XP has several enhancements, and just LOOKS better!)
If you get XP, you get the added bonus of being able to run most of your "old" programs and games using "compatability mode"... Win2k doesn't let you run any Win95 or Win98 stuff unless it's 100% 32-bit.
Get XP! (Dislaimer: I do not work for the Microsoft Corporation, its subsidiaries, or holdings) -
ME cost me over $800.00 in programs that it would not run, $500.00 in hard ware it would not work with. All those programs and hardware work in XP.

windows me is the best,xp all it did was cause problems and have the software i had didnt work,...........xp is a lot of shite

XP Pro is Windows 2000, but it works.
No, seriously, I use Win2k at work, and have Win XP Pro at home, and the home machine works about 10 times more stable than the work (and I push the home machine harder).
XP, for once really IS an upgrade, though more dramatically so for people suffering through Windows ME and 98, not so dramatic for thgose with a properly updated, working, Win2k.
Just from a "looks" standpoint, I like XP better than 2k, and with more stability... more compatability...
BTW: If you rely on anything native to Windows 2000 or NT (like NTFS) you need "Pro". All "Home" is, it's a crippled "Pro" and I don't care for it either... -
Oh, and it's not XP that's slow... it's your computer!
I think I know what you meant, CJGS, and a better graphics card does help, believe it or not (I only expected gaming performance from my Geforce 4 ti 4200, but it also sped up the Windows GUI by 100%...)
XP XP XP XP XP XP! -

The processor is Intel Celeron, the speed is 1.1 Ghz and this one I noticed as not as good as Pentium 4. The RAM is 128 MB and this isn't enough for WinXP. The computer manufacture made it as a basic to sell and I even upgraded the video card for graphic improvement. This is what it is, the processor and the RAM needs to improve.
I downgraded the OS as a classic for performance without the special effects and the extras. The computer's performance became much better since. The HD is too small anyway at 20GB.
I have another computer, much better as P4, 1.6 Ghz, 256 RAM and running as windows 2000. I highly recommend this one with a massive HD of 60 GB. The HD is as NTFS, this one is great for large video capturing and for huge files past the 4GB limit. -
I have XP Pro on a AMD K6/2 400 and it runs like a dream.
ME used to crash somewhere around 4 or 5 times a day.
Stats for XP are like this............
Look at the record uptime and the only reason I had to reboot was for a program installation......
[12:47] ••• [System Info] Platform:[ Windows XP ] Uptime:[ 4*Hours 47*Minutes 55*Seconds ] Record Uptime:[ 1*Week 6*Days 6*Hours 15*Minutes 16*Seconds ] CPU:[ AMD K6/2, 406MHz (100% Load) ] Memory Usage:[ 167/256MB (65.23%) *(|||||||---) ] Screen:[ 800x600 24bit 56Hz ]
XP is solid. -
GO win2k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My computer came with winME, and that just sucked azz! crashes left and right everyday... so i tried my buddies winXP pro.. thats alright too.. doesnt crash on me, but i did have a hard time getting all my games and programs to work for it.. even if i tried using the compatiability modes... =(, maybe now there ar epatches or something.. but for now i'm sticking with win2k, its stable.. reliable and just kicks ass.. there were times when i "sensed" a crash coming on... and it would of crashed on winME but win2k pulled its shiet 2gether and kept it self alive =) ...
anyways, i'd say stick with win2k, until they fix all those compatibility issues...
maybe i'll give winxp pro another try soon, but for now win2k all teh way!
btw: don't bother with xp home ... bleh!
hehe
good luckThx -
I just can't stand Windows XP.
That whole cartoony colorfful and huge layout. I like how Windows ME looks alot more.
Go with Windows 2000 though. It is by far the best. -
Whatever system you use ask yourself one thing....?
Does it do what you want it to do...?
I use win ME which does the biz for me with video capture and html, win XP was buggy to start with but is getting better. Whatever system you use is only as good as you make it or what you use it for. I'll probably upgrade to XP, but only when I feel it's the best choice available. Which it aint at this moment in time ! -
