i am trying to encode a flick in tmpg. when i entered the audio file, it wouldn't accept it. It said "wav file will not open, or unsupported." Why?
I have divx 5.02 bundle installed, and I thaught that covered everything. I extracted the wav with avi2wav, and under file info, vdub said it was divx4.12, and the audio compression was "unknown".
should I install some other kind of codec?
vdub said something about microsoft codec, and thats why I tried avi2wav, but still no luck.
As you can probobly tell, I am still learning. I would like to understand all of this good stuff, and not just follow directions. However, directions will do for now!
if someone out there recognizes the error msg that I mentioned, please write back. I really want to see this movie. Lately I am running into alot of problems I never had before. I used to only download off of kazaa, but I finally got the hang of IRC! (yay!)
I guess I am learning that there are all sorts of ways of doing basically the same things, as well as better ways of doing things. Although Kazaa never gave me a movie that I had problems encoding, the quality and variety was nowhere near IRC.
So someone out there, please help me in my learning process. explain to me what it is that is causing tmpg and vdub to not accept these files? And it could get a bit involved, so please don't hesitate to pm me, so I can ask you a WHOLE LOT more questions!

First try to do the VFAPI plug-in trick.
Under under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2.
This should make TMPGEnc read everything you can see in media player.

If you can't see the file in mediaplayer,
try installing the NIMO codec pack.

  3. what file type are you trying to encode?
is it a divx file being enocded to vcd/svcd or a dvd (vob) to vcd/svcd?
if it's divx you can get a compatable wav file by extracting the wav from the avi using virtua dub, also i would recommend running the wav file thru dvd2avi to convert it into a proper 44.1khz wav file thus eliminating any metallic sounds from your final vcd/svcd
if you need anymore assistance on the above steps mail me on danib666@hotmail.com as it'll be easier to go thru it cos i don't have the programs here at work with me at the mo

If it says "unknown" it may be ac3.

  5. ah one other thing i forgot, if it's a vite divx then theres a good chance it's using the ogg audio codec
you can get the codec from the vcdhelp tools page
other than that it could be ac3 which i think the nimo codec pack covers but i'm not positive on that

It is is AC3, you're going to have to convert it using headac3he first. Theres an excellent guide floating around here that shows step by step how its done.
