    Is there a software that can convert a Powerpoint slideshow to mpeg1 or avi file ?

    This is a task we do often here in the Distance Learning Department of a college. The easiest way I've found to capture any streaming media or computer generated video or powerpoint with the best quality is using the s-video tv out connector of a display card or laptop, the line out of the audio card and recording to a dv camcorder with analog inputs. (Here we use a spectrum scan converter and a Sony DSR-20 dvcam vtr but the price points are way above home use). Once you have a dv.avi you can use virtualdub to crop and reencode to your hearts content.
