  1. Hello all,

I am in the process of testing my DVD players's CDR/CDRW playback capabilities. My DVD player is Panasonic A110 (1998) and I have lost the manual. I download the mpegs (of indian movies) from internet. MY CD-RW burner is Sony CRX700E.

First I tried playing VCD by burning them on CD-Rs. None of them worked. Looked up www.vcdhelp.com, and switched to CD-RW. Bought a TDK 4X 700MB 80min 5 pack from Fries and burned them using standard Nero Video CD template. Everything worked like charm. No problems with quality as well. I noticed as soon as I insert the VCD, the player recognizes it and letters ("vCD") appear. also, letters "PBC ON" appear automatically and VCD starts to play.

I checked vcdhelp.com and noticed that my player is capapble of playing SVCDs as well (no subs, no tracks). I wanted to try a SVCD playback on my DVD player. I downloaded another MPEG (MPEG-2) this time. Burned using Nero Super Video CD template, and tried playing back on my player. It behaves differently. It still recognizes the disc as "vCD". It does not start to play immediately. When I press play it starts, but every few mins greeny blocking screens appear. No letters "PBC ON" appear on the LCD Display. If I press SEARCH or SKIP, it makes the dvd player hang.

I tried different variations, initially I had SVCD menus setup, I removed them and burned again - no luck. Nero does not complain when I add the downloaded mpeg to SVCD template. This means ( I assume) that the file I downloaded is a proper MPEG-2 encoding. I downloaded a SVCD plug-in for WMP, and the movie runs fine on my computer. I haven't tried playing the movie on my computer directly from the SVCD I burnt. I will have to get PowerDVD for this. I got MPEG-2/SVCD plug-in installed and tried, same results.

    What are my options?
    1. Can I burn a VCD using MPEG-2 encoded file? Uncheck standard compliance in Nero???

    2. Nero has a "compatibility" button that says the directory where mpeg-2 sequence is stored in svcd is not recognized by some dvd players (MPEG-2 Vs MPEGAV), should I try this?

    3. Anybody out there who actually saw SVCD play on Panasonic A110 dvd player?

    4. Any other alternatives will be apreciated.

    Thanks for your time
