  1. Hi, I'm using a Hauppage WinTV 250, and capturing VHS to DVD/MPeg2 using Wintv2000. Everytime I capture, however, it seems like there is too much in the mpeg. Let me explain.
I get a good mpeg, but there is an empty area to the right of the image, almost like a vertical letterbox bar, and at the bottom of the image there is a kind of "crawl."
Anyone else have this problem? What did you do?

    Thanks,

    Rob

  2. Here's a quick cap, since my description isn't so hot.....

I want that crawl at the bottom gone, and I want the black bar on the right gone.

Neither of these are visible when the tape is played normally with the same VCR on a TV.....

  3. First, set your brightness to 128, as that picture looks washed out. Second, that is probably just your source (video tape I would bet). Burn it as a SVCD, VCD, or DVD, and you won't see it on your TV at all due to overscan.

  4. I just brightened the picture to make the problem easier to see. Hopefully you're right about the overscan (and yes it's from VHS) but it seems to cut pretty far in, at least on the right side.

  5. The weirdest thing is that the black bar on the right seems to get wider as the movie goes.

  7. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that it was commonly accepted that the bottom portion of the video that appears as in your scan is due to the VCR head. Seems the timing in spinning between the heads in a VCR creates this. I guess it is the noise that occurs when the electronics switches between the pickups. It is the most easy way for me to tell whether someone has converted from VHS or another source without a spinning head (no pun intended). Most TVs will not show it due to overscan. The Line on the right looks like an aspect ratio conversion prob.
