WinTV DVB Nexus-s mpeg´s compatibility

hi there. first, that card is great! but the captured mpegs are too big. so i tried to convert them into divx/svcd/vcd/... but it always stops at some mb´s! why??!?

second thing is the compatibility: that captured mpegs aren´t compatible with all programs (e.g. virtualDub).

my question is how i can convert them into smaller formats? any1 knows?
