  1. I have some video files in .avi from a friend that i really want to watch, but when i try to open it i get an error message, but you can hear only the audio playing.

Only the audio will convert in TMPEG too, and only the audio will play! I have DivX on my computer, so what codec do i need to play these ?

p.s. I'm running Windows ME and it doesn't work on Windows 2000 either.

which divx version do you have?

I believe the latest is 5.02.

A lot of recent video files on P2P are showing up with this compressor.

  3. if in doubt you can try installing divx 3, 4, 5.x
or one of the 'codec packs' such as NimoCodec Pack.

  4. There is a codec called Xvid that is a mpeg 4 codec that I had to use on some files that I have downloaded.
