  1. I recently upgraded (from Nero's site) from 5.5.4.0 to 5.5.9.0. Nero refused to recognize my drive, so I downgraded to 5.5.8.2. Nero recognized my drive but would only write at 1x speed.

To make this short, I am now trying to go all the way back to 5.5.4.0, but now Nero pops up a message indicating that my media is not writable. Nothing has changed except my Neor installation, so I'm sure that is the problem.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Can anyone suggest ANYTHING? Nero customer support won't even respond to my emails!!!

  2. I'm not a fan of Nero because of the so many versions and continual patches. It seems that the problem is in continual Alpha not even Beta stage, but for the first time I installed Nero 5590 on WinXP and it all works fine. I'm happy with it.

I could assume that your problem may be related to an incomplete uninstallation, or perhaps you have anoyher CD-R or DVD burning app that might not be getting along (Roxio? who knows).

Perhaps when you uninstalled you also deleted a file that was shared by some part of WindowsOS or that is crucial for CD and DVD burning within the Windows folder. When I was using Windows98SE I always kept shared files when uninstalling and always installed programs on their own folder under the name of the program (ex. Photoshop--> c:\Program Folder\Photoshop Folder\) This helped me traced down residual dll's when uninstalling and folders. If you have a backup of Windows98 fall back on that. Consider getting ERS a utility to backup your system files.

  3. Are you using a legal registration key? A legal nero key will work with all upgrades while the key generators ones won't. Sounds like you are in a demo mode on warez key and thats why they aren't responding.

But...it might clonecd with the 1X demo speed that I'm thinking of....

I am a fan of NERO because of their continually updating of the program. In the past, NERO had to be completely uninstalled, then the new version reinstalled for it to recognize the drives.
