  1. I've read all the guides on this site and I've had no (or little) luck. All I'm trying to do is take my old vcds, combine the mpegs, resample the audio, and burn back to dvd-r. Nut no matter what authoring software I try, something always get's in the way.....

Spruce-Up - The most promising of the lot, except it seems to set the wrong resolution info which is causing my dvd player to flip and scramble the image. Works fine on pc though.

DVDIT PE - Doesn't accept mpeg audio, has to reconvert to pcm or dolby. This make the files way too big and takes ages.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory - Won't accept MPEG-1 video.

Has anyone got any suggestions of authoring software that will accept these files and author the disc correctly?

  2. hi m8 im trying the same myself at the mo ,i think you have to join the vcds together with tmpgenc (merge and cut)then after that i think you have to convert the audio theres a guide to it in the edit section to join them together :P

  3. I've already joined the files and upsampled the audio to 48 khz. My problem is that no authoring applications will accept the file properly, even though it's DVD compliant.

  5. For the audio i use a program called dbPowerAMP to convert the frequency. You'll need the mp2 plugin for it as well.

  7. I've had no problem with Spruce Up accepting MPEG1 files. As long as the video part is either 352x240 for NTSC or 352x288 PAL at standard VCD bitrate Spruce Up supports them.

Try importing a single MPEG1 video file (before you have joined your two former VCD MPEGs) into Spruce UP without any audio. If it accepts it, try joing the files with whatever app you use for that and then importing the new file into Spruce UP. Does it work?. If not, find another app for joing your MPEGs. If it works then the problem is with the audio portion.

You can use TMPGEnc to change the audio sampling rate to 48Khz and the latest version seems to work perfectly well.

Put your new MPEG video file and your MPEG audio file into the same directory. Rename them both so they have the same filename before the extension. If the MPEG audio file is an MP2 file, change the file extension to MPA. Don't multiplex the two files.

As long as the filename before the extension is the same, Spruce UP will import the video and also load the seperate audio file automatically.

If you are still having problems you could always try something like Ulead VideoStudio but it will re-render the entire movie to create one single file. It does work however.
