Hi, is there a way to play copied playstation 2 games without putting a modchip. I have heard about some boot disc that you put in first and then the copied game and it should play? Is this true? whats the boot cd called>?

As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

I don't think there is a 'real' boot cd available for the PS2, I believe that you do need to have a mod chip installed. You can buy them now that fit internally and externally without any soldering, so your warranty continues to remain valid.

    Try looking at www.mod-chip.com

I have one more question. I put a dvd-r movie the fast and the furious that i ripped (just the movie) on a dvd-r and i tried to see if it worked in my ps2 and it did. Does this mean it can read dvd-r's. I found out that i have a version 7. (39001 model) If it CAN read my dvd-r movies will it be able to read ps2 backups???

  5. It can read DVD-Rs but you need a mod chip to play game backups. This has been talked about on this board about 3,000 times before but I'll tell you. A playstation game has these files on the disc that only a playstation can read and not a DVD-ROM drive or CD drive. So if you try to copy the game all you will get is the game and nothing to boot it (the special files) so you need a mod chip. Playstation 1 has a boot disc but PS2 doesn't so the mod chip is needed to boot the game and there are about 100 mod chips for PS2 which are all for different versions of the PS2. Some of the mod chips need a GameShark or Action Replay to but the Backups of the games and are a waist of money and some can boot the backups directly. So you need a mod chip to play game backups weather it is a CD-R or DVD-R but no mod chip to play DVD-Rs (DVD-Rs that are copied movies).
