  1. I've enocded an mpeg2 file using TMPGenc with a CQ VBR. I'm using DVD Workshop to author the disc but when I load my 2:00:54 mpeg into it, it reads the total time as 1:36:52.

I've tried re-muxing it a couple of different ways, using MPEG Tools, BBMPEG, etc., but every time I get the same results...

Is there something I'm doing incorrectly during encoding? Will DVD WS not read more than 1:36:52? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Try authoring it and burn to a VIDEO_TS folder on you HD. Then play it with a software DVD player and see if it's OK.

If you do not have a trial version of DVDWS and apply the V1.2 patch at
http://www.ulead.com/tech/dws/dws_ftp.htm and check "Don no convert compliant file" on the Make Disc page DVDWS should not recompile your mpeg files.

  5. Well...tried all that...

The biggest problem here is that I have this two hour mpeg that I'm trying to add chapters and scene selection menus to. I can chapter all the way up to the 1:36:52 point that DVD WS sees as the end of the file. DVDWS will *play* past there, but I cannot enter chapter points beyond that time code.

  6. What are the parameters for your mpeg file and I will try and duplicate your problem.

  7. Thanks LC, I'll get them in here when I get home.

I just had a thought, though...what would DVDWS think of a NTSCFilm framerate? That's what I've encoded these as because I've de-interlaced them. I mean, think about this: (24fps/30fps)=(96min/120min) which is exactly the time I'm looking at in DVDWS (1:36).

    So...it looks like DVDWS can't understand a 3:2 pulldown?

Any ideas on a work around? Do I need to re-encode NTSCFilm to NTSC 29.97? ?

    Bueller?

  8. Hey LC, my settings are:

    mpeg2; 720x480; 4:3 Display; 23.976 (internally 29.97); CQ@97 (4000-6000kbps); NTSC; 3:2 pulldown.

I really think it has to do with the 23.976 and DVDWS's inability to compensate for th pulldown?

    Thanks!

  9. Yes. I've tested a clip. True time is 1:03. Exact same encoding params ezxcept frame rate:

    23.976 = 0:50 in DVDWS
    29.97 = 1:03 in DVDWS

So, what to do?I've IVTC'd the video to bring it down, so is it okay re-up it to 29.97? That doesn't sound too right...

  10. Looks like you hit on the problem. I remember a similiar problem with DVDMF and Ulead did not NTSC Film frame rate.

  11. hey lamont i instelled the 1.2 update but it does not fix the problem.

since ulead on thinks the file is so big it decides to drop frames when makeing the vobs anyway. so the file is the same lentgh as before. ;(

Actually, my question was directed to mcdermd.

morphine, try setting your DVD settings in Workshop to the highest bitrate.

By the way, what version(s) of Workshop have you been using?
    The demo?
    The demo cracked?
    The full ver. 1.0?
Full ver. 1.0 w/ Ulead sound sync fix?
Full ver. 1.0 plus 1.2 update?

  15. mpeg is 4.13gb

Been using DVD Workshop 1.2 full retail...

I still don't think it's ever going to recognize the 3:2 pulldown (unless they release a patch for it). Now I'm wondering how I should encode with 29.97. Interlaced? Progressive (is that even valid?)?

Still looking. any thoughts on Pinnacle DVD Impression Pro?

  16. leebo im using

Full ver. 1.0 plus 1.2 update plus the other patch they have.

and i have tried varing the way to complie on ulead but it still comes down to the fact that ulead think the files are smaller than they really are so it jsut drops frames and thus also causeing the udio to be totally de-syned too.

I haven't had any sync issues on my large file. My smaller file (~1min) does have issues, but sync is good. The issue is that it is also rendered at 23.976 NTSCFilm and DVD WS also thinks it's shorter than it is. The audio cuts out at the 50 sec mark that DVD WS thinks is the end.

Anyways, I think I'm gonna try moving onto some more complex suites to see what kind of resuilt I get there...Pinnacle Impressions Pro or Reel DVD? Anybody got any experience/advice on either one? They both will encode Dolby and both allow multiple audo tracks. Both are also much more in depth as far as menu creation...anyways, LMK...
