I recently purchased a ATI Radeon VE DDR card on recommendation, so that I could capture stuff on video and watch VCD movies on a bigger screen but the movies won't play on my TV, just the monitor. I've tried ATI multimedia center 7.0 and the Video viewer won't play the movie at all, the file player will and so will Windows media player *but* everthing, including the viewing window appears on TV except the actual movie. All I get is black inside the window.
I tried downloading the latest drivers and a a DirectX 8 add on but all that did was mess up my monitor picture. I've got that back to normal now but the boot up screens are smaller than they should be.
I'm using Win98SE, 650 mzh processor, 384 ram,just in case anyone asks
Any help would be most appreciated as I'm totally new to this video capture thing!

hmm. what version of media player are you using? and are you trying to view the DivX's in full screen, or windowed?

HI
Same problem. Sound is ok, but video does not dsiplay on TV, desktop does.
This is independently of the player software used (WMP7.1, The Playa, WinDVD, PowerDVD).
BUT there is one player where it works: RealPlayer.
I tried several things in order to locate the problem. If you switch off the hardware acceleration of your video card, the movie displays on TV, BUT upside-down.
The problem does not depend on the computer screen resolution.
My software and my drivers are all up-to-date, so I drew the conclusion that this is a software or a driver problem directly connected to the video card you use (I have a ATI Rage Mobility 128AGP).
Please let me know, when you have this problem solved. I'll do the same.

I may be wrong here, but I think you have to disable MacroVision.Macrovision is used to sort of prohibit the copying of movies using the tv out on vid cards to vcr and such.ALL of you seem to have the same problem, again I think its the macrovision protection.Check the Tools section i think I saw something for this.

I posted this on another thread... Let me know if it works for you...
I have a Redeon VE and this is what I did to fix it. Note: I have not been able to run on the monitor and on TV at the same time with good quality...
I went to the advanced settings on the display tab. Chose the DISPLAYS tab and did the following:
1) If I want to watch on TV only I put Monitor as secondary and TV as primary.
2) If I want to disable the TV then I reversed #1.
3) If I want both then I put both as primary. This played great on TV but my monitor was resized and the picture was off screen.
Another tip is to save these profiles and then attach hot-keys to them. I used shift F1 and F2 and this worked out great!
Hope this helps...
