  1. Hi
I just read a guide that stated how to create a dolby-digital 5.1 soundtrack in a DivX rip (fairly bi 120megs per hour)...But my question is if it can be done for DivX why not for SVCD(i know its not standard procedure but can it be done?)

Yes, it can be done - but not many players can play the 5.1 sound from SVCD's. Mind you as no players can play DivX yet, I doubt this will interest you.

Here the Guide for how to make a 5.1 Soundtrack for SVCD's

Aldus4, any thoughts when might some clone DVD player come along playing Divx/Mpeg4 as well? I'm personally quite suprised that there isn't one already out, or is it just that the divx/mpeg4 codec is not 100% ready nor stable as format being used in Standalone. Firmware/Codec loading option from CDR/RW would be fine..

Quite simply becuase the 'official' SVCD specifications dont allow the use of Dolby Digital 5.1 audio (BUT they do allow 5.1 Mpeg audio - but it is a rather wierd n obscure format)..DivX is an unofficial format so there are no real rules as to what it can or cant contain....Of course some DVD software and set tops may play SVCD with DD 5.1 ..I have an AFreey ld2060 and it can play just about anything so i may try a svcd with dd 5.1 audio.

I recall a chip having been developed that can encode MPEG4. Here the link >> http://www.sigmadesigns.com/products/em8470series.htm
The problem as you said is loading all the different codecs. If someone will actually do this one day - who knows?

Has anyone tried encoding an MPEG-2 clip and multiplexing the Dolby Digital audio onto it, then burning as a data CD and playing it in their Apex that will let you play video burned as a basic data CD?

I think that the only thing I haven't yet tried (all my other "experiments" have been with audio compressed to MPEG-1 Layer 2). I guess I have a little project tonight after work then ... well, after Big Brother 2.
