  1. I have recently decided to switch to creating SVCD's rather then VCD's for the better quality. While I have successfully created several working VCDs, I have not yet been able to make a working SVCD.

    Using the guides on this site, I encoded an AVI file to MPEG2. Everything seemed to be fine, the file played well in Windows Media Player. But, when I went to burn, the finished product would not play in any of my 3 DVD players, claiming the disc may not have a playback feature or something along that vein. One player is a Hitachi, the other a Sony, the other a JVC, and they are all supposedly SVCD compatible. (Don't know the model no. off hand, since I'm at work, but I have checked the list here before and all of them should be able to play SVCD), so I am certain it is something wrong with the process I'm using. I have tried every method of conversion for AVI to SVCD listed on this site, as well as every method of burning. The error that is given to me when trying to play the SVCD in any of my DVD players is "No playback on this disc", or something close to that. Any ideas as to why? Is it something simple I am missing?

    What are you using fpr Authoring and Burning?

    I use Nero (choosing SVCD Video template) and have no problems with SVCD-standard-template-created MPEGs from TMPGEnc (and using lots of variations on the standard template)

  3. I initially tried TMPEG and Nero, for that is what I used for VCDs. (And those worked almost always without a hitch) That didn't work. So I tried every other method listed on this site, and alas, no avail.

  5. You may have already tried it, but within Nero in the SVCD template, did you try the different settings on the "compatibility" button?

    I have finally got burning a SVCD in Nero working after wasting hours.
    Maybe this will help:
    * I created MPEG2 in TMPGEnc
    * in Nero selected New Compilation under File and then selected SVCD from the icons on the left hand side of the window
    * clicked on New and dragged the MPEG2's across and it worked

    By the way, did you purchase the MPEG2 add-on from Nero?

    Good luck,
    David

    Did you try (de) activating PBC on your standalone?

    Why not skip nero and use VCDeasy instead? just load your mpeg. select SVCD as the output and it will do the rest.
    Even if it doesn't support your burner, it will stilll create a bin/cue thats super easy to burn using either fireburner or cdrwin.
