Sound is playing but no playback

ive had a quick look through the forums but havnt found any help or ideas on this one -

for a start i use the latest version of wmp to view my movies. lately i have been d/loading a lot of simpsons cartoons to watch on my PC - this is were my problem arises. One of the downloads i have plays perfectly no problems - then i went to watch the other two - the sound starts up perfectly but the picture pops up then freezes for about a minute. The picture will then start up playing again but it will be really slow and it is totally out of synch - best way to describe this is it is like watching the cartoon in slow motion.

as far as i know i have the latest codecs on computers as i am able to watch other movies ie divx and mpegs.

if any one can help me please reply because this is doing my head in trying to fix it
