    what is a aspi driver and how do i upgrade it?

    You can either download the official Adaptec ASPI drivers or ForceASPI (which also installs the same drivers).

    People have had problems with the Adaptec download working properly so I generally recommend the ForceASPI package (which installs the same thing anyway). You can download ForceASPI from http://www.doom9.org
