  1. Hi,

I have 683 MB of mpg files (29.97 fps, 1995 kbps, 128 kps audio) that I am trying to burn to VCD using Nero 5.5 (the newest version). It burns successfully and the mpegs play fine on the PC if I select the dat files in the MPEG folder on the newly burned CD.

The problem is: When I try to play this VCD in my Panasonic DVD-RV20 (multiregion) the menu and video are fine, but the audio is horrible! The dialogue is low and there is a metallic noise overlaying the soundtrack.

Please help! I don't know why this is happening!

  2. Is your player capable of playing XVCD because that is not a standard VCD you are burning. Standard bitrate for VCD is 1150kbps. Try reencoding and lowering your bitrate, see if that helps.

  3. Are you using media that normally gives you no trouble on standard VCDs?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. You might also try upping that audio bitrate to the standard 224 and seeing if that inproves anything.

  5. I am currently using Memorex High Speed CDRWs which work. I have two VCDs made already that work fine. The CDRW which did not work had never been burned on before. For some reason, the RV-20 doesn't allow you to re-burn anything. If a CDRW is used once, it's VCD days are over as far as my player is concerned. I have also used irregular bitrates, well above 1150 kbps before and I didn't have this problem. 2250 normally. Both of the previous (and working) VCDs were high non-standard bitrates. I will try upping the audio kbps to 224 and see if that works, but if anyone else has more suggestions or has seen this problem I'd really appreciate it! CDRWs are *expensive*!

  6. Still no luck. I'm still getting a lot of noise on burned VCDs when encoding at audio 224 kbps/video 1950 kbps at 29.97 fps with a volume change increase and normalization enabled. Changing the volume without normalization never caused me problems in the past. Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? It would be nice to know that not fiddling with the audio at all other than setting the bitrate to 224 will not waste any more CDRWs! Thanks!
