I have just purchased my first capture card; a Pinnacle Studio Deluxe Capture Card and have installed all the software that came with it. (Express & Studio V7)
I have also installed Virtual Dub & Huffyuv codec. (In that order)
I have read the tutorial "How to capture to AVI in realtime and after convert to VCD, SVCD, DVD"
When I start Virtual Dub and then select FILE-> CAPTURE AVI an error pops up saying "No Capture Driver available"
Can anybody advise me how to fix this.
In Control Panel \ System\ Hardware \ Device manager I have a IEEE 1394 bus Host adapter (whats that) and a couple of "Pinnacle" entries in the Sound Video & Game controllers. Which are "Pinnacle Systems Studio AV/DV E4" & "Pinnacle Systems Studio AV/DV OVERLAY"
What other drivers do I need.
OS is XP
Thanks for any help offered

Sometimes VDub "shoots from the hip" and generates that error before the capture function initiates on VDud. Did the program shut down, or are you still in the capture mode once you clear the error?

This is getting to be a common problem.
Its not your capture card. XP loads the "wdm" device drivers for your card which are usually accessed via Directshow designed applications. Virtualdub was designed in the days of win95 and win98 and expects Video for windows VFW (vxd) virtual drivers.
There is supposed to be vfw-wdm wrapper available that works with xp and its posted on this site but I don't have xp so don't know if it works. -
The SDL card can only capture as 720x480 DV AVI. You can only use the Studio software to capture. VirtualDub isn't going to work with the card.
Alot of users experience audio sync problems with the Deluxe. A workaround is to use the Scenalyzer software to capture. It doesn't recognize the card either so you have to go into Studio and click Capture to "initialize" first. Apparently, Pinnacle's programmers can't code as well as a shareware author.
