Im trying to burn a Xsvcd. when i finaly got something to work the image is just covering a small part of the screen in the left.. everything else is perfect.. trying the burned disc on other dvd it works fine. Checking reports on the DV-525 on vcd help it say it plays XSVCD. am i doing something wrong.. im using TmpegEnc to demultiplex video and audio then i use tmpeg to convert sound to 48 khz pcm then i use Spruce UP Authoring and DVD patcher (so i dont have to reencode video resolution) found a guide here on vcdhelp that i followed.

I have a DV-525 that has played everything I gave it so far.
My bitrate has never gone above 2496 for video though, but no problem with 48khz 224 audio.
I'm not familiar with your method, which guide did you use?
Also the stats on your original mpeg will help.

I assume that you are making an xsvcd with MPEG-1.
Try to use MPEG-2. I had the the same problem when i used kwag's template. After i changed to MPEG-2, it played smootly on my
Pioneer DV-525.

it works when i use an mpeg 2 file that has 720x480 and the bitrate is 3000 ?? never worked before =)
but converting all my mpeg2 files to that is not an option. anyhow the once i have been trying with is both pal and ntsc.
pal :
mpeg2
resolution 480x576
bitrate 2350000 bits/sec
framerate 25
ntsc
mpeg2
resolution 480x480
bitrate 2000000 bits/sec
framerate 29 -
I have the pioneer dv-525 as well.
Here's an example of when i got video in top left-hand corner:
movie was an attempt to save a tiny amount of bandwidth, as follows
video was encoded as mpg1 varible bit rate @ 480 x 224
movie plays well but since vert res is less than 240 it will play in top half, the horiz res does not scale to 720 or 704 or 352 so it will stay to the left.
This model scales everything to it's nearest compatible "template" the only time i have seen 480 on the horiz play full screen is on direct SVCD to nearest ntsc spec 480 x 480 vbr.
another example is a capture i did @ 352 x 480(cropped to 272) for low bitrate conversion of star wars a capped @ 352 x 272 and converted the raw avi to mpg2 & used it as a test for low resolution anamorphic video (worked but was bad idea... ) this cap played as full screen as vert res was over 240 ... so was scaled by dv-525 to 480 & vert res was a natural to fit right as 352 (basically scaled to 720)
So, mine isn't picky as to mpg1 or 2 just the actual resolution, hope that helps someone else out.
