I turned an MPEG into a VCD thru Nero....when I watch...about 1/2 way thru there is some serious blockiness going on. I'm trying to figure out what is causing it.

Is it the Sony S530D, Is it my Plextor 12x CDRW burning at 4x, is it the Memorex CDRW 4x CDs?

What causes thsoe blocks so I know what I can do differently so I dont get them

  2. If you used nero to encode rather than just to burn then thats probrably your answer. Nero is a very good burning application but it sucks as an encoder. Encode your VCD compliant mpegs with TMPGEnc.

well...actually its the BLADE2 mpeg just downloaded off the net....and watching it thru WMP it looked decent, so I just used NERO to burn it to VCD....is there something I should do with the mpeg i downloaded before burning with Nero?

  4. If nero did'nt give you a compliancy error when you tried to burn it as a VCD then the file must already be compliant. So no you dont need to do anything to it. It was just the way you worded it I thought you may have used nero to encode the file.

If you burned the file without reencoding then there should be no change in the quality. You say you watched the file before burning using WMP, what size TV are you watching the VCD on now. It could be that the blockiness was always there you just never noticed it because you were watching it in a small window on WMP, and you are now watching it on a big screen TV.

  5. might be the memorex cd's

    get a faster burning cd
    and try again

sometimes it's the speed of burn that screws up

I used to burn at 4x and they were always crappy burns
now I burn at 32x and they play alot better on my standalone dvd player

in some cases a slower burn works
tho in my case a faster burn works

hhmmm...i see. I'm watching it on a 65" widescreen...yeah yeah, i know it wont look good on that size...but the blockyness gets so bad the video freezes up.

I didnt get a compliancy error either...went smooth....and i know i didnt see those blocks in WMP either.

Its probably the burn speed and the crappy memorex CDRW's...but i think my sony sucks too.

    Thanks for the help CryptKeeper!!!!!
