ok i've tried following the divx to svcd tutorial and am having a small problem with it. i am using an .avi file that when opened in Virtual Dub and check File Information, the attributes are as follows: 640x336, 23.977 fps. The tutorial (http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencsvcd.htm) shows that the Format is NTSC Film if the video source is 23.976 in TMPGEnc, as is the case in the tutorial as well, and you can see in the first picture that they have NTSC Film selected, and in the comments window says that "Consists from MPEG-2 file, 480x480, 29.97 fps." This basically tells me that to encode to the SVCD format, it has to convert the fps to 29.97. Is this correct?

It just seems that my quality is degrading when i am doing this conversion and i thought that the SVCD should look as good as the Divx...

That is just a typo in TMPG, my version says the same thing. When it encodes it will really encode at 23.976. And as for quality, DivX is better quality because it uses mpg-4 technology which allows it to be more compressed with better quality than mpg-2 of svcd, but DivX isn't compatible with standalone players and the svcd usually looks alot better on your tv than on your computer.
