  1. I am capturing video using my Fuji F601Z camera. It captures the video at 15 fps with 8 khz mono sound into an AVI file. When I use TPMGenc to convert to mpeg2 or mpeg1, the sound quality is poor. It sounds "tinnie" and noisy.

Let me tell you what does work to answer some obvious questions:

    1. When I use TPMGenc with files from my DV cam (720x480 @30fps) the files are fine. The audio has no noise.

    2. When I use virtual dub to extract the audio from my fuji files (15fps) the audio is fine.

    3. I have used the audio file souce in TPMGenc as both the original AVI and from the virtual dub output. Both have the noise. The virtual dub one may be a little better.

    4. I have looked in TPMGenc for audio input options and I cannot find any.

    Any suggestions?

Is there any other mpeg2 encoder that I should try?

  2. TMPGEnc has serious problems when resampling audio. I resample and normalise the audio in GWave before feeding it to TMPGEnc.

  3. Thanks for the response.

What resampling settings do I use for mpeg2?

    Where do I get gwave?

  4. Ok, I did a search and figured out how to get gwave. Is there any other audio resampling programs? This one seems to be a bit of a pain.

  6. Thanks, Cloud.

I tried it and it worked!!

The audio is still not as good as the original wav file, but it is much better. I found that the higher sampling rate that I chose, the better the sound quality. Thus, I went with 96kb.

$40 sw. Ugh. But, at least the batch mode works well and it seems to be nice SW.

    Thanks again.
