i've had my pioneer 104 for a few weeks now and i've been wondering about what settings i should use to convert a long dual layer movie to fit on 1 dvd-r. The only standalone dvd player i have that can play dvd-r's is my region 1 panasonic lv-60 (I live in a region 2 country) so i was thinking about encoding from pal dvd to ntsc so i could watch my dvd-r's on it.(it can't play pal discs properly.) has anyone done this kind of conversion before, and if so, could they tell me if they had any problems with frame rates and if region 2 players had any problems playing the ntsc discs.. thanks in advance.

  2. take alook here for help:

you will need to modify the instructions in this guide to suit DVD but it should be simple enough to understand. You may well end up with slightly jerky video playback tho.

you could also get some ideas from here:

This requires much more effort but should give better results.

w.r.t region 2 players playing NTSC discs, most handle it OK (as long as it is region-free). Some will output NTSC and others will ouput PAL-60 (60 fields per second PAL). Most TV's in region-2 areas (Europe and ?) will handle NTSC and/or PAL 60 with no problems.
