  1. Hi Folks

    I have the folowing problem:
I got an .dat movie, burned it as VCD and tried to play on my satandalone. The picture is ok, but the sound is only verry high scratches (donīt know how to describe in english). It sounds like digital errors on an CD. If I play it on Pc everything is okm also sound.
Next I tried to extract the sound. Converted to mpeg with VCDGear (burned, but no result) and tried to open with VirtualDub. There I got the errormessage: "MPEG import filter: pack synchronization error".
What is wrong and what can I do?

    Thanx a lot

You can load the .dat file straight into Vdub. You can also load it into TMPGEnc and increase the audio level if necessary, while you re-encode it.

  3. Hi KingJohn
Do you think I have to increase the audio? What do I have to do? And what level should I use?
Well, I try a little bit.

    Thank You

Settings > Audio > Setting > Play > Change volume level > Play

If you only got the .dat movie in the first place, is it fully compliant ?, is the audio correct for a VCD. If it plays OK before you burn, then maybe its wrong.

I suggested TMPGEnc for 2 reasons, 1 it will make the mpeg again, and correct any faults the .dat file may have, 2, at the same time boost the audio level. But maybe the audio does not need a boost just needs to be correct for a VCD (Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

  5. Hi KingJohn
I didnīt know how, but i managed it. I reencodet the dat with TMPEG into VCD and set the mark at "audio correction" (donīt know the exact name because iīm sitting on another PC; itīs in the audio tab). But i didnīt change anything. Now it works.

Does it cause any harm when i use 48000Hz instead of 44100Hz 224kbps?

If you started with a dat you should have run it through VCDGear's *dat to mpg first*, or (what I would have done) change the dat to mpg and remuxed it with TMPG's mpeg tools.

However if there are any problems with the .dat file VCDGear will crash out.

Missed the bit on VCDGear. You don't expect me to read posts before replying, do you? 8) Actually the reason I started using mpeg tools to remux rather than using VCDGear is that the latter occasionally reduced a reasonably good mpeg to one that was unusable.
