  1. I have a 4 cd SVCD movie. The first three files are about 805 megs a piece and the 4th is a bit smaller. The problem is that when i try to JOIN the mpgs to cut them smaller, the program always seems to lock up. I tried this with TMPGenc and BBmpg and it froze up everytime, the minute i tried to edit it in tmpgenc, and the minute i tried to load it in bbmpg. I also tried to load it in TMPGenc to re-encode it and drop the quality a bit to make it a smaller size, but again it froze the minute i tried to load it up. I have no idea how to work with these to try and get them down to size to burn, can anyone help? Also, there are 80 min CD-RW's, right? Anyways, any help would be GREATLY appreciated and thanx in advance!

  2. If the total size of your file after joining is over 2Gb, TMPGEnc won't take it. (This might not be true if you're using Windows XP with the new file system).

I'm supposing you're wanting to reduce the number of discs required. If so, this is what I would do:

Join the first two discs' Avseq01.mpg files first. Render them in TMPEGEnc to fit on one disc. (You'll have to figure out the bitrate to make this combined segment fit on one disc).

Then do the same thing with the second two discs' files.

    OR:

Load each disc's file separately into TMPGEnc and re-encode to the lower bitrate, then join later.

  5. Alright, i've also tried M2-Edit now as well, and same problem.. it apparently freezes when i try to load the video. This program is a bit different though.. the program doesnt come up as being frozen, and my computer light is flickering so obviously it's trying to load it.. but nothing is happening. Does anyone have ANY idea of something i can do????

  6. TMPGEnc shouldn't choke like you're describing. There is something wrong either with the specs of the mpg files (or mpg file errors); or something TMPGEnc needs (like DirectX, Codecs, Etc.) is not loaded. Check to see if TMPGEnc will load and process other mpg files. If it won't then check directX, codecs etc.

I'm not sure I understood you correctly about loading: Did you say you could get it to join two files? This means that mpgtools is accepting the mpg files.

Just for kicks see if it will demux any of your files. If it will, try demuxing then remuxing before trying to load into the main encoder. (I've had this work before on bad mpg files, but occasionally I get sync problems with the remux).

Here's a couple of other things to try:

Get VCDgear and run all your mpg files thru it with the CORRECT ERRORS box checked. Then see if TMPGEnc will tolerate them.

Or, try using another encoder like Avisynth, Flask, Adobe Premier, etc. (You shouldn't have to do this, but these are good encoders too.)

  7. I haven't tried M2 Edit yet. But first try some other mpg files and see if they will load and process, if not it's obviously something with your system.

If they will load & process, try the VCDgear solution and see what happens.

  8. after writing that last post i grabbed vcd easy and loaded it in there.. came up that isnt wasnt a true mpeg file, but actually a dat file just renamed to mpg rather than converted. lol. i got it fixed though and it's loading good, just gotta figure out how the hell to get 4 805 meg files to fit on cd's.. i think the only thing i can do is just kill the crystal clear quality a bit :*(

    thanx for the help though
