  2. The card doesn't actually capture any audio. It uses a passthrough cable you plug into your audio card and it does the capture. And yes, it is stereo.

That's NOT corrrect. They card DOES capture audio itself. Infact, with the PV-231, you don't even have the audio from the Capture card connected to your soundcard at all. Markm does not know what he is talking about.

The audio is pretty much the same between the PV-231 (233) and the WintvPVR. I know, as I own both of these units, and yes it's stereo as long as it's from the RCA audio inputs. Don't know if the tuner in the PV-233 is stereo or not though.

  6. So you don't have a passthrough audio cable going from your PV to your sound card's input then, either internal or external?

If you have no loopback, then apparently the 231 does encode the audio. My 233 doesn't encode any audio without the loopback. Likewise, if I mute the audio in on my sound card, I get no audio in the capture.

  7. I have owned and tested both cards. The 231 only needs to have audio fed into it's input audio jacks. You will hear the sound when recording.

With the 233, to be able to hear the sound as you are recording you need to also have the 233's audio output connected to the audio input of your sound card, but the audio IS recorded by the 233 card, even if you don't have the audio output connected to your sound card's audio input. In both cases you will be able to hear the audio when you play the file back even if you did not hook up the audio out put to your sound card.

  8. You are correct Barnabas. I could have sworn I had tested this when I installed the card previously in a laptop with a docking station. I had trouble getting the audio to capture, and I could have sworn I needed to have the sound looped into the sound card for it to capture. I just unplugged the loopback on the current machine though, and sure enough audio is being captured.

    I stand corrected.
