  1. How can I convert a m2v video into a mpeg, avi or any other video format (other than by renaming it) ?

  2. the file extentsion .m2v is usually used to denote an mpeg-2 file with video only (no sound). Just drag and drop into Windows media player and it should play fine. If not, it is not what the file extension says it is!

  3. M2V files work fine, they're music videos. It's just that I want to edit them and neither Windows movie maker, adope premiere, TMPGenc nor virtadub recognize them...

  4. If they play fine, the extension suggests they are mpeg-2 videos. I guess they also contain audio as they are music videos! In Tmpgenc have you tried raising the priority of the directshow filter, that can persuade it to open files it otherwise has trouble with. You could also try changing the extension to .mpg to see if that makes any difference tho I doubt it.
