Using audio compression codecs with VirtualDub

I havn't successfully used a compression codec with VirtualDub. When I select MP3 or whatever the capture takes place but when I end the capture VirtualDub hangs with no resulting usable capture file. Any help ?

Well,

I've not really tried this, but seriously it's not worth it at capture time, just use standard PCM at 44100 to capture, then convert it later during the encode.
