  1. I've been searching for free DVD Copying software and I haven't been able to find anything. Can anyone help? The best I have found is a free 30-Day Trial. Is there anything better?

  2. if you are trying to do a dvd rip (purely for archiving purposes), there are a few in the tools section on the left side of this page that are free. I personally used dvdx and it works great.

If, however, you are talking dvd to dvd, then I read to much into your question and this will not help.

If the DVD is single layer (i.e., less than 4.7GB of content) then one can use SmartRipper to make a backup of the DVD on your HD. Then any number of programs (I use Nero) can be used to burn to DVD-R. The process is fast and simple and all menus and bonus features are retained.

However, if the DVD is multi-layer then the free tools I'm aware of require quite a bit more learning and use time per movie. You can reduce the content (e.g., alternate language tracks or bonus features) to allow a fit onto a single DVD-R. In other cases either the movie's data rate must be reduced or the DVD contents split across two DVDs.

Do the trial copying programs handle dual layer to single layer automatically? How do they deal with movies too large to fit on a single DVD or bonus features?
