Dear friend, if your subtitles are in ssa format, either you convert them to sub format, or (faster) you use the other subtitle filter : Avery Lee's ssa filter - which actually works very well...
You can find the filter there
http://sauron.mordor.net/dgraft/
Under the 'other' category, together with a whole bunch of other really good filters.

THANKS!
I hahe some *.sub files too, but i cant get them work!!
How can i know what kind of .sub files those are?? and what filter i should use?? -
to mux subs with a avi file i normally do :
1.open movie.avi in virtualdub
2.add the filter (ssa - avery... )
3.then save the avi again, set audio to direct copy / video to full processing and choose de codec and settings
your new movie_sub.avi file will have the subs.
(i can´t frame serve to tmpg, and encode )
make a try
