  1. Hi, first of all im a newbie here so be patient and maybe the things y ask are silly.
This is my first time trying to put a permanent subtitle to a divx movie and then trying to convert the movie to play it in a DVD home teather.
I have downloaded the DVD rip version of BLADE 2. I have the spanish subtitles to play with.
The subtitles are in .SUB and im trying to use VirtualDub with TextSub.
I can put the subtitle in the movie........ but how can i make the new avi with the subtitle pasted?? If i press F5 i only see the preview, and if i press F7 i save that into a new .avi file....... but the file weights 5Gb!!!!. Wich compression of video i should use if later i will try to pass to MPEG format??
So the question is this........ HOW TO PASTE A PERMANENT SUBTITLE WITH THESE PROGRAMS AND HOW TO PASS THEM TO MPEG. I WAS READING THE FORUMS EXPLAINING HOW TO DO THIS, BUT FOR EXAMPLE WHEN I TRY TO SAVE THE AUDIO FILE TO A WAV..... THE COMPRESSION METHOD (FULL COMPRESSION) GIVES ME AN ERROR AND I CANNOT MAKE THAT FU%#% WAV FILE JAJA.PLEASE HELP ME, A LOT OF QUESTIONS I KNOW.
AND SORRY OF MY POOR ENGLISH.

  2. If your planning on encoding to mpeg, its best not to use any compression because it will decrease your end mpeg result. If you have 5gb of space available then just do it uncompressed and delete it after encoding to mpeg.

  3. A couple of pointers - but please stop SHOUTING! Not fun to read.

1- To avoid the 5 Gig video file, learn how to Frameserve directly from AVI to MPEG (without a lengthy re-encode to AVI)
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/virtualdubframeserve.htm
This avoids the need for an intermediary file between VirtualDub and your encoder (TMPGEnc for instance).

Just a little trick here: in VirtualDub, apply a resize filter first to your video (to 352x288 or 352x240 - I recommend Donald Graft smart resize filter), then apply the subtitle filter. Result: if your video appears in a letterbox (black bands at the top and bottom), then the subtitles will be added in the black bands rather than onto the movie strip (cool).

    2- Your audio problem
First you have to know what type of audio your file contains
You can use a utility like GSPOT to check on what audio format you are dealing with
    http://dvd.box.sk/indexN.php3?pid=divx&prj=soft3&id=6334&rubrika=tools&tools=codecs

Then use the proper version of Virtual Dub to deal with the audio (i.e. export it out) - VirtualDub AC3 or Virtual Dub mp3 (both can be found at http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html)

Once you have exported your audio, get audio tools (like headac3he or besweet) to convert it to uncompressed wav.

You can then use the separate uncompressed audio together with the frameserved video to create your VCD file.

    Cheers
