How big is big for you. Have you tried capturing with codecs that have different higher compression ratios?
-
big as in like 2 mins equals a 100 mbs
im using picvideo mjpeg
shoudl i lower compression? what shoudl i do? -
PicVideo MJPEG has a Quality slider control you can use to reduce the captured filesize (and quality
)
If filesize really is an issue then consider using DivX as a capture codec. -
MJPEG IS low compression. If you want lower, you might as well capture in DivX
Before I discovered MJPEG, there was 1 Gig for two minutes so I don't whine
Oh, yeah, get a bigger HD if you are serious about video -
Let's be nice now.
I think the other question was, "is there software for mpeg conversion" much like what ATI offers for direct capture in Mpg 1/2.
Good question. -
Hi there, I have only recently began capturing TV programs with my old TView99 (Askey) card using Virtual Dub. I too had the same problem with large files sizes but I managed to make the files smaller; only video.
What I did was download the latest Microsoft codecs from their site, try searching for Windows Media Encoder and downloading that, also Direct Media and I a patch for DirectCapture 8.0
Once I start up Virtual Dub, I use the Microsoft Mpeg4 v2.0 codec, just select it and don't configure it just yet.
For audio compression use the CD Quality option. Under PREFERENCES, change the frame's per second option to 25 (click on round up to nearest millisecond after). The original setting is 15 fps.
Also change the capture format from RGB to YUY24(30% reduction there in file size).
Now hopefully when you capture your avi file, you should get 2GB for 2hrs captured. Using TMPGenc you can compress that down to around 1GB; if you haven't got it already it's freeware.
Alternatively you could use AVI2VCD (freeware too!!) to encode your avi file to Mpeg1 and also allows you split the new file into 70/80 min cd's automatically.
Hope that helps, if you need any clarification just post again or mail me.
