  1. i'm using the latest version of TMPGenc to encode some DV camcorder movie clips. i have used all different types of settings up to 8000kbps rate cbr, or 7000kbps rate vbr with the motion search precision set to highest quality (slowest), noise reduction on etc, but a still get a 'shimmering' effect (is it called moire?)..i'm burning using Ulead DVD Workshop on a Pioneer A04. i was hoping that by encoding at the highest possible quality, i would get DVD's at approx the same quality as my DV tapes. are there any other encoding settings or programs i should be using?...is this a media problem?

are you able to post a screen shot?

  5. in still mode, or when there is very little motion, the quality is ok. it's when there is movement that the 'shimmering' occurs, so not sure how to capture a screen shot to show the problem.

TMPEGenc doesn't suck - CCE is just better that's all.
TMPEGenc is good for most things

    I haven't tried Vegas yet.
CCE is VERY VERY good - but hard to get to get a suitable output.
Stick with it and it will give very good results
