  1. I'm having lots of trouble with this VCD I got from someone. So I examined the MPEGs in V Dub. Here were the results:

    Video track:
Frame size, fps: 352X240, 29.970 fps
    # of frames (time): 913 (0:30)
    Number of I, P, and B frames: 61 / 244 / 608
    I-fame min/avg/max/total frame size: 5900 / 9253 / 11372 (552K)
    P-fame min/avg/max/total frame size: 4100 / 6252 / 7560 (1490K)
    B-fame min/avg/max/total frame size: 1812 / 3112 / 4768 (1848K)
    Average bitrate: 1046 Kbps (128KB/s)

    Audio track:
Format: 44KHz stereo, 224Kbps layer II
    # of frames: 1167
    Total size: 834K

Am I right to assume that the video scrambles and then freezes in my standalone due to the average bitrate of 1046 Kbps? I use the same brand/density CDR, burner, and every other setting as VCDs that I've gotten to work, only this one doesn't. If someone who actually knows what they're talking about could explain to me why the MPEG scrambles and freezes in my player, I'd be very happy!

  2. That might be the case. If you look at the DVD Players link over there on the left, you'll find that many users say that the compatibility of the 5215 with XVCD discs is not good at all, it just likes standard 1150/224 CBR VCDs (and it even has problems with a few of those, depending on media).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
