got this device for couple days, still trying it out before possiblly returning to circuitcity, the famous sync problem doesn't show up so far, maybe due to mostly short caps, yet today i tried caping mpeg1 files it stopped capping after 20 minutes or so, anyone has experience? man, it's really a pain finding a piece that just works without hassle, it may also be a pain for compusa or circuitcity 'cause i may need to return again.

I have been using the Instant DVD for a couple of months with no problems. I did have a problem with sync issues when it captured audio at 48Khz but no at 44. I usually capture about 1 hour at a time though, just in case. Sometimes longer capture would get out of sync after that long.
Use the latest version of capwhiz. When you start it and it asks for the format, choose VCD. When you get into the capture screen, click video format and select the resolution you really want to capture at. I use SVCD MPEG-2 480x480 with no problems.
Hope this helps.
