can resolution be changed in dv capture?

Hi,
if I captured analogue video via(passthru) a dv camcorder and firewire is the resolution I can capture in always a set size. I want to capture using a lossy codec to enable me to get a few hours recording in one session and I havnt got the harddrive space for dv resolution. TIA.

well... if you are TRANSFERING from your dv cam you have to traqnsfert it as is but you can buy a capture card and choose whatever codec you might like and the size you want
