I used an avi Divx file which is 24min 44sec and followed the directions
in DivX to VCD All-in-one guide (http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm)
the video source fps for the file is 23.976fps so I selected VideoCD (NTSC).mcf (not sure if right)
The guide said not to split the file if less than 80min (So does Source range still have to be checked?) I checked it but didn't adjust any settings
when double clicked.
Than I encoded the file the result was a large file when played from
media player the length shows 1hr 10min but no sound.
Did I do something wrong? Or does the sound work once its burned to VCD?

Where did the DivX come from, did you download it, or make it yourself ? If you have downloaded the file, do you have the audio codec needed ? (Install Nimo codec pack)
You only need to split the file if it wont fit on a VCD, 24 Min will fit, so there is no need to select the source range. You could encode all of it, and split it later anyway (Split/merge)
You may need to process the audio before use, not knowing what type it is, this is hard to say, but you could save it out in Vdub like this;
Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > Conversion > 44.1khz
SAVE WAV
The WAV can then be used with the AVI in TMPGEnc, but I don't think you need to do this, sounds more like a missing codec... -
I downloaded the file.
The only codecs I installed were DivX 3.11alpha, DivX 5.0 pro, DivX 5.0.2 bundle, XviD MPEG4 codec.
Actually I followed the guide and made the wav file.
Are you saying I don't have to do that?
But in TMPGenc what do I select as Audio Source if I don't make a wav?
Also what template do I use for 23.976fps??
Thanks for the help I really appreciate it. -
Ok, well you did install a few codec's, but you may still have some missing. The Nimo Codec pack has a huge bunch of them, more than you will ever need. If you have a audio codec missing, chances are Nimo will install it for you.
No you don't always need to save out the WAV, just load into TMPGEnc, hit start then cancel after a few minuets and check your output to see if its OK.
If you do want to use the AVI and WAV separately, in TMPGEnc there are 2 browse buttons, when you click the browse for the AVI it automatically fills in the location for the Audio, but you can ignore that and click the browse for the WAV.
The template sets up TMPGEnc to make fully compliant VCD mpegs, If your countries TV standard is NTSC you would load a VCD NTSC, or the PAL VCD template if your country is PAL
Again you can convert just a little before testing the output, if your happy click start again to encode the whole movie
Using a template and making a compliant VCD is the first step, with good quality disks, you can now verify your DVD player will play them, before trying any other type of disk (SVCD/XVCD)
But in TMPGenc what do I select as Audio Source if I don't make a wav? -
You were right I think it was the Nimo codec/selecting source range.
Thanks for all your help.
Just one more thing, is there a way to make the output file a little smaller
(without sacrificing quality) so I can fit more files on a cd? -
"without sacrificing quality", NO
Even if my mpeg1's are oversize by 1 min, I dont cut/mess with bitrates, I just split them. They are cheap, why bother ? -
For 23.976 fps you need the NTSCfilm template...
and for a 24 min Divx file you should be able to make a full bit-rate SVCD...
